From Rookies to Champions—and Now Moving Up a Division

Some stories are meant to be savored. A year ago, the very first women’s team in the history of SV Niklashausen took the stage—a bold new venture born from the growing number of talented girls in our table tennis academy. What followed exceeded all expectations: The women led by Maria Klimczak marched confidently through their debut season and were crowned champions of the Bezirksliga Nord/Ost right off the bat. Twelve wins, just a single loss, and a run differential of 106–34! A record that speaks for itself and more than earns promotion to the Association League.

The recipe for success was as simple as it was beautiful: the perfect blend of experience and youth. On one hand, the seasoned veterans Maria Klimczak and Christine Harff, who led the way with their strategic vision and nerves of steel. On the other hand, several exceptional talents from our own ranks.  Eva-Marie Keller, Ola Klimczak, and Lorena Harter—all of them barely out of their childhoods and yet already established players at the table. A team that fought for one another and made history together.

But with promotion comes a new chapter—and it will be a challenging one. In the Verbandsklasse Nord, seven new opponents await, including big names such as TTG 1947 Walldorf, TTC Schwarz-Gold St. Ilgen, TSV Am Viernheim, and TTC Heddesheim. It’s a league that’s a step up in terms of skill, and one in which long trips to the Heidelberg and Mannheim areas will once again be part of everyday life. Here, every rally counts; here, you have to work hard for every point.

That’s exactly why the goal remains realistic and honest: to avoid relegation. The team knows that this is a big step up and that, for now, they’ll be playing the role of the underdog in the new league. But a team that has dominated an entire district league travels with confidence. The girls want to continue gaining experience, apply what they’ve learned at the TT School at the highest amateur level, and in doing so, demonstrate exactly what has made them strong: team spirit, a love of the game, and the unyielding determination never to give up without a fight in any match.

The journey of the Niklashausen women’s team has only just begun. And already, it’s one of our club’s most inspiring success stories. We can’t wait to see what chapter they’ll write next.
